Sustainability & Our Impact
Sustainability & Our Impact
At Baliveno, luxury and responsibility are not in tension — they are inseparable. Rooted in our 1970 Jamaican heritage and guided by a philosophy of timeless craftsmanship, we believe the finest garments are those that honour both the person who wears them and the world they inhabit.
Our Materials
Every Baliveno piece begins with fabric selection. We prioritise materials that carry the lowest environmental footprint without compromising on hand-feel, drape, or longevity:
- GOTS-certified organic cotton — grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, verified from farm to finished garment.
- Recycled and deadstock fabrics — diverting textile waste from landfill and giving premium materials a second life.
- Tencel™ Lyocell — produced in a closed-loop process that recovers and reuses over 99% of the solvent used.
- Responsibly sourced wool and cashmere — sourced from farms audited for animal welfare and land stewardship.
We continually evaluate new innovations in sustainable textiles and hold our suppliers to a minimum material transparency standard before any fabric enters our supply chain.

Ethical Sourcing & Manufacturing
Craftsmanship means nothing without conscience. Our manufacturing partners are selected through a rigorous audit process and must meet standards across four pillars:
- Fair wages & safe conditions — all partners are independently audited against SA8000 social accountability standards.
- Living wage commitment — we benchmark pay against in-country living wage data, not just legal minimums.
- No forced or child labour — zero tolerance, with contractual obligations and unannounced factory visits.
- Local community investment — partners are encouraged to invest a percentage of margin into worker welfare programmes.
We publish a Supplier List update annually. We believe radical transparency is the only credible path for a modern luxury brand.

Certifications & Standards
Third-party verification holds us accountable. Current certifications and standards we work towards include:
- GOTS — Global Organic Textile Standard for organic fibre processing
- OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 — testing for harmful substances across the entire supply chain
- SA8000 — social accountability in manufacturing
- B Corp (in progress) — holistic business impact certification across governance, workers, community, and environment
Certification documentation is available on request. Contact us at hello@baliveno.com.
Packaging & Circularity
Our packaging is 100% plastic-free. Outer boxes are made from FSC-certified recycled board, tissue paper is acid-free and recyclable, and garment bags are compostable. We are currently piloting a take-back programme for end-of-life Baliveno pieces — details coming soon.
